Presbyterian Ladies' College Sydney: The Croydon Centre for Art, Design & Technology signage

$0.00
Presbyterian Ladies' College, Sydney purchased the former Croydon Hotel building in 1997. The old pub’s heritage shell was preserved, while its interior was transformed. The Croydon Centre for Art, Design & Technology now houses inviting spaces for learning and creating, and showcases the results in the school’s Adelaide Perry Gallery.

PLC commissioned Sydney design studio Boheem to create a logo for 'the Croydon', and approached Danthonia to bring it to life as three -dimensional illuminated signage. Chrome has long been associated with the art-deco look, so it's no surprise Boheem asked us to render the bold letters with a highly reflective metallic finish.

Once the letters were installed, some local punters mistakenly believed that the old Croydon Hotel had re-opened. They were disappointed, but the Croydon’s reincarnation will continue to be a landmark home for innovation and the arts. Danthonia used traditional sign-crafting techniques paired with cutting-edge technology to make this sign, which can be said to embody the building’s spirit.
